What Happens During a Free Foundation Inspection?
Booking a foundation inspection can feel like a big step, especially if you're worried about what you'll hear. Knowing what to expect makes it easier. Here's what happens when Onyx Foundation comes out to your home, and it's always free.
Before we arrive
When you book, tell us what you've noticed: cracks, sticking doors, uneven floors or anything else. Photos help too. It's best if an adult who can let us inside is home for the visit.
The walkthrough
We start by walking the house with you. You show us what you've noticed, and we look at the problem areas inside and out, including:
Interior walls, ceilings and door frames
Floors, for slopes, dips or soft spots
Exterior brick, mortar and the visible foundation
Drainage and grading around the house
The crawl space, for pier and beam homes
Elevation readings
Next, we take elevation readings across the house. This shows us where the foundation has moved, how much, and in which direction. It's the most important part of the inspection, because it turns "the floor feels off" into real measurements.
Explaining what we found
Before we leave, we explain what we see in plain language. If your home needs repair, we'll walk you through the options that fit your house. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too.
Your written quote
If repair is recommended, you'll get a written quote that shows the plan, including where piers would go and what type. You can review it at your own pace and approve it online when you're ready. There's no pressure and no obligation.
